Your thoughts on the progression of wound care
Have you seen a positive change in wound care practices during your career?
Comments:
– Yes. Fewer infection rates, subsequent decreased LOS, pain, and suffering. More doctors ordering wound vacs, though, that are not needed for smaller, “minor” wounds.
– I remember maalox and sugar tx with heat lamps. How barbaric!!
– Too slowly.
– Better technology for treatments and multi-disciplinary evaluation and plan of care.
– It seems to me the more they move away from simple treatments the longer it takes the wounds to heal. Wound care is so complicated now with so many different products to choose from that you never know if you’re doing the appropriate treatment.
