TV-based technology engages seniors

San Diego-based Independa has teamed up with LG Electronics to embed Independa's cloud-based remote care and social engagement solution within LG's commercial TVs.

The CloudCare solution provides a suite of integrated modules that provide live video chat through Skype, Facebook picture sharing, life story audio recordings and even medication and appointment reminders.

In addition, an interfaced Caregiver Dashboard allows caregivers to monitor the health and well being of a senior from any computer, smartphone or wireless tablet using a special caregiver app. There is even a threshold alert system through which caregivers can monitor wireless health devices or home sensors.

"I experienced first hand the difficulties and related anguish of providing care to an elderly loved one, and set out to create an offering that would allow caregivers to 'be there' regardless of their physical distance," said Kian Saneii, Independa's CEO and chairman, in a release. "This is long overdue, but now our partners and customers can improve their businesses while also improving the lives of those in their care, and the family members who support them."
