Tracking the benefits of sunlight

Scientists have long known the benefits of sunlight, from helping the body manufacture osteoporosis-fighting Vitamin D to relieving Seasonal Affective Disorder and depression and improving sleep habits. In other cases, some older adults should avoid sunlight because of certain medication interactions. Now individuals can track how much light exposure they're getting through a wearable, solar-powered device.

Cambridge, Mass.-based startup GoodLux Technology LLC has announced the launch of SunSprite, a device and app that tracks and records the amount of bright light an individual receives each day.

The device is small and lightweight, so it can be clipped on a shirt or jacket. And with the corresponding mobile app which connects to an iOS device via Bluetooth, people can see if they are getting the recommended amount of bright light each day and analyze their light exposure patterns.
