Severe storm leads to East Texas nursing home evacuation
A severe thunderstorm accompanied by high winds and rain through East Texas on Thursday night damaged the roof of Eden Select Specialty Care nursing home in Longview. Seventy-five residents were evacuated and no injuries were reported Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary told the Longview News-Journal.
At 7:15 pm., in the small rural town of Fairdale, Ill., a tornado flattened homes, downed power lines and littered the streets with debris.
One fatality and eight people suffered injuries, according to reports. A 67-year-old woman died as a result of injuries sustained from the storm. She was not sheltered in her basement when family members found her.
The National Weather Service issued an "enhanced risk" that stretched from northeast Texas to the upper Midwest, including Michigan, Wisconsin and the upper Midwest.
