Retrofitting medicine tackle boxes

Now there’s an app for safe medication dispensation.

Creative Strategies has released a smart padlock technology to turn traditional emergency medicine kits, or tackle box exchange systems, into a fully automated dispensing and tracking device for long-term care facilities.

StatDISPENSE fits on any type of tackle box system and is controlled by a mobile app on any Apple iOS supported device. The system tracks when authorized caregivers open the emergency medication kit, who opened it, what medication was removed and which resident received the dose.

“If a caregiver or pharmacy technician can check the weather with an iPhone, they can operate statDISPENSE,” said Jerry Merritt, CEO Creative strategies in a press release. “The technology eliminates human error that can result from manual record keeping, making inventory control and regulatory compliance much easier and more efficient. Once medication is administered, facilities and pharmacies are notified in real-time ensuring inventory tracking and automatic billing.”

The technology provides integrated medical record keeping that eliminates the need for physical paperwork and manual inventory management while also improving inventory accuracy, timely billing, regulatory compliance and reduced risk for medication errors.
