Report: Are too many ‘repeat offender’ SNFs still accepting new residents?

A new analysis of federal data found that 44 percent of nursing homes were authorized to continue to accept new residents and receive Mericare reimbursements despite having repeat violations of quality care standards three years in a row. The analysis was conducted by the Coalition for Quality Care (CQC) and Voices for Quality Care using Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services inspection records.

This study used historical inspection data to identify nursing homes that repeatedly violate the same minimum federal standards.

"Unfortunately, this analysis confirms our collective experiences with nursing homes across the country,” Richard Mollot, president of CQC said in a press release. "Far too many people live in facilities where abuse and neglect continue year after year, with little or no effective intervention by regulators."
