Provider implements technology to keep residents connected

Senior living provider Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group has implemented a program to train older adults on using computer technology and to provide ongoing support to help them to stay connected.

“The addition of Connected Living provides residents with access to a whole host of new ways to engage with family and friends,” said Paul Casale Jr., executive director, Allerton House at Central Park in Weymouth, Mass., one of five Welch Group assisted living communities, in a statement. “We know from research that staying active, engaged and socially connected are essential to good health and happiness.”

In addition to Allerton House at Central Park, the technology has been deployed at four other Welch communities in the Boston/South Shore area:

  1. Village at Proprietor’s Green in Marshfield,
  2. The Village at Duxbury in Duxbury,
  3. Allerton House at Hancock Park in Quincy, and
  4. Allerton House at Harbor Park in Hingham.

The Connected Living Network (CLN) provides secure, cloud-based access to the Internet, email, photos, a library, games and social media tools such as video chat. This technology, coupled with the Connected Living University (CLU), provides lifelong learning programs, classes and activities. In addition, Connected Living Consulting (CLC) provides the on-site support to assist with adoption and sustained usage. In each community, the company provides resident program coordinators and other volunteers to train residents in using the program and incorporating the use of technology into as many resident activities as desired.
