President Trump Announces New Pandemic-Related Measures To Protect Seniors
In a statement issued April 30th, President Trump reiterated his support for the nation’s seniors and announced the following measures:
- FEMA will send supplemental shipments of PPE to all 15,400 Medicaid and Medicare-certified nursing homes in America.
- CMS will provide states with $81 million from the CARES Act to facilitate increased inspections of nursing homes.
- A new rule will require information about COVID-19 cases in nursing homes to be reported directly to the CDC, residents, and their family members; testing data must also be posted online.
- A new Coronavirus Commission for Safety and Quality in Nursing Homes will be established, consisting of industry experts, doctors and scientists, resident and patient advocates, family members, infection and prevention control specialists, and state and local authorities.
