Nurses fired for faking glucose results

According to documents filed by the Minnesota Department of Health and reported by the Duluth News Tribune, two nurse employees at the Cook convalescent and nursing care unit (C&NC), a 28 bed nursing home that is attached to Cook Hospital in Cook, Minn., neglected to perform blood glucose tests on seven residents and charted false numbers.

Based on the falsified test results, insulin administration was inappropriately given to or withheld from the residents, all of whom suffered some form of cognitive impairment.

Fortunately, none of the residents suffered harm as a result of the falsified test results, which occurred between May 23 and June 6 last year. However, the licensed practical nurses were fired and complaints against the nurses is under review with disciplinary action possible.
