Next year’s calendar girls (and guys) revealed
A retirement community is giving new meaning to the phrase golden oldie.
Some resident-driven groups got creative and posed for the 2016 “Golden Oldies” calendar at the not-for-profit Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Va.
“Our clubs and groups provide the inspiration behind all activity in the community,” says staff member Debbie Cannatella, who coordinated calendar production along with the resident groups. “With more than 140 clubs, committees, groups and activities, there is something for every taste and every pace. The active lifestyle and diverse interests of our residents truly promote an atmosphere of celebrating life.”
Each month in 2016 features a resident group re-enacting a classic song, including:
- Patti Page’s “(How Much is That) Doggie in the Window” featuring the Dog Walking Group,
- Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” featuring the Poker Group and
- Lou Christie’s “Lightnin’ Strikes” featuring the Wii Bowling group.
All calendar sale proceeds benefit the community’s Benevolent Care Fund. The fund allows residents experiencing financial difficulty to continue living At Ashby Ponds and receive needed care.
Ashby Ponds residents were inspired by the movie “Calendar Girls” to pose for their first calendar in 2012, which raised more than $6,800 for the fund.
