Trump names new CMS administrator

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Seema Verma, founder and CEO of health policy consulting firm SVC Inc., to serve as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He also nominated U.S. Representative Tom Price, R-Ga., as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

"She has decades of experience advising on Medicare and Medicaid policy and helping states navigate our complicated systems," Trump said in a statement. "Together, Chairman Price and Seema Verma are the dream team that will transform our healthcare system for the benefit of all Americans."

Verma, an Indiana resident, served as the State of Indiana's health reform lead following passage of the Affordable Care Act. She worked with former governor Mitch Daniels and Vice President-elect Mike Pence to develop the nation's first consumer-driven Medicaid program, Healthy Indiana Plan. Verma has also worked on Medicaid reform programs for Iowa, Ohio, Kentucky Tennessee and Iowa, according to SVC Inc.'s website.

Previously, Verma worked for the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County in Indiana and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials in Washington, D.C. She holds a master of public health from Johns Hopkins University.
