Regulators: 13 Massachusetts nurses commit license fraud

The licenses of 13 nurses in Massachusetts were revoked or suspended after state regulators discovered the nurses had lied about having nursing degrees or being licensed in other states, according to the Boston GlobeSo far, health department investigators haven't found any evidence linking the nurses to any patient safety or quality of care issues.

The discovery raised questions about the background checks the regulators rely on to issue licenses to several thousand nurses and other health professionals each year, including psychologists, pharmacists and more. Five of the nurses had been working in Massachusetts, but health department officials couldn't say where, the Globe reports.

The case has been turned over to the FBI and state attorney general's office.
