New sleep monitor system is touch-free, connects to smartphone

San Diego-based ResMed just announced the release of its S+ non-contact sleep monitor and the availability of an app that integrates with Apple's iOS8 HealthKit.

The portable bedside sleep monitor uses biomotion sensors to collect sleep patterns over time and then sends this information directly to the app so it can be stored on the individual's iPhone and/or be transmitted to a healthcare provider.

"By integrating S+ with HealthKit, we're able to provide an easy way for Apple users to track, share and improve their own sleep habits," said Don Darkin, president of ResMed's Sleep-Disordered Breathing business unit, in a press release.
