Music is theme for National Assisted Living Week
“The Magic of Music” is the 2014 theme of National Assisted Living Week, which will be celebrated Sept. 7 to 13.
The theme is meant to highlight the integral role that music plays in providing joy or comfort or conjuring memories in assisted living residences every day, according to the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL), which established the observance in 1995. Music has a healing effect on those who have dementia, NCAL says, adding that almost 40 percent of assisted living residents have some type of dementia.
NCAL encouranges assisted living communities to hold musical events during the week.
