Minnix to retire as LeadingAge CEO

LeadingAge President and CEO William L. “Larry” Minnix will retire by the end of the year, the organization announced late Feb. 5.

Minnix has served in the role since December 2000, when LeadingAge was known as the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). Before joining AAHSA/LeadingAge, he was the president and CEO of Wesley Woods Center in Atlanta, an organization he had joined as an administrative intern and was associated with for almost three decades. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Emory University.

“Larry’s contributions to our field over the past 15 years have been significant. He is transitioning out of an organization that is well-positioned to serve our members and the field,” David Gehm, chairman of the LeadingAge board, said in a statement. “While Larry will be greatly missed by all, we know that we will find an impressive leader to guide LeadingAge as we continue to focus on our critical mission of transforming the world of possibilities for aging.”

The organization plans to retain an executive recruiting firm to find a successor.

The news comes on the heels of a leadership change at another national organization serving aging services and housing providers, the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA). Rick Grimes retired as that group’s president and CEO in June. James Balda was named as his successor in December and began serving in that role in January.
