Minn. police subdue nursing home resident with Taser
A Stillwater, Minn. nursing home resident was subdued by police Wednesday with a Taser after he reportedly stabbed a female employee in the chest with a pen and refused to put it down, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
The 79-year-old man, who also has dementia, had been living at Golden LivingCenter-Linden for two days before “making homicidal comments to staff" and “shouting that he wanted to kill everybody," Chief of Police John Gannaway said.
Gannaway said officers attempted to communicate with the man numerous times and disarm him, but he was unresponsive to their requests and became confrontational.
Jenny Schoenecker, executive director of Golden LivingCenter-Linden, said the facility management reacted quickly to ensure staff and resident safety, and has notified the state department of health of the incident, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press report. "This is a police matter, and we are cooperating with the police and assisting them with their investigation into this matter," Schoenecker said.
The female employee sought medical treatment but was not seriously injured, according to the report.
