Long-term care facilities recognized for QAPI quality and performance

Top performing long-term care facilities in the U.S. and Canada have been recognized as 2013 Embracing Quality Award Winners by Providigm, LLC. To achieve this distinction, the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) accredited facilities in the U.S. and Canada excelled in at least one of the three quality measures–customer satisfaction, prevention of hospital readmission and deficiency-free surveys–in a voluntary program developed by Providigm.

Nearly 300 long-term care facilities were recognized for one or more of the quality measures, which are evaluated through assessments conducted continuously throughout the year by Providigm, a develop of a quality management assessment and reporting system. Ninety-eight facilities in 25 states achieved deficiency-free surveys and 106 in 30 states were recognized for prevention of hospital admissions. Five facilities were cited for excellence in all three quality measure areas. They are Alden Estates;  Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester, Mass.; Briody Health Care Facility, Lockport, NY; Dr. William O. Benenson Rehabilitation Pavilion, Flushing, NY; and New York Congregational Nursing Center, Brooklyn, NY.

Section 6102(c) of the Affordable Care Act requires that all nursing homes develop Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs, which provide a systematic process to enables providers to identify quality problems and initiate corrective actions. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) is expected to issue revisions and a final version of the current guidelines in the Spring of 2013.
