Joplin Tornado Claims at Least 11 Lives in Nursing Home
A nursing home operator in Joplin, Mo., reported 11 fatalities at his facility in the aftermath of a devastating tornado that ripped through the Midwestern city Sunday night, msnbc.com reported.
“‘What used to be a building was nothing more than a pile of rubble,’ said Bill Mitchell, who operated Greenbriar on the city’s south side. Ten victims were residents and the 11th was a staff member, he added. One person remains unaccounted for,” according to the report.
The current death toll is 119, according to Jasper County’s coroner. A major hospital was also ravaged by the twister.
