IT predictions, trends and challenges for 2013 from IDC
Researchers IDC Health Insights, a division of IDC, a market research, analysis and advisory firm, recently revealed its predictions for IT trends in 2013.
Some highlights from its report:
- Mobile devices: Sales of smart mobile devices (SMDs: smartphones and tablets) will drive more than half of IT market growth, which researchers predict will reach 57 percent.
- Software as a Service (SaaS): IDC predictions indicate more than $25 billion in acquisitions over the next 20 months. This is an $8 billion increase over the past 20 months.
- More tablets, smaller tablets: Mini-tablets (screens less than 8 inches) will comprise as much as 60 percent of unit shipments.
