Health Care REIT become Welltower
One of the largest owners of senior housing real estate in the country, Health Care REIT has changed its name to Welltower Inc. In the growing real estate investment trust (REIT) market, the company felt its name was too generic and wanted to distinguish itself in the industry.
The renaming was announced to employees in a letter, according to The Toledo Blade. On Wednesday, September 30, the company will officially become Welltower.
“With the launch of our new name, we are rededicating ourselves to the platforms, investment opportunities and partner relationships that have made us a recognized leader in our industry,” wrote Health Care REIT’s CEO Thomas J. DeRosa. “We believe that we are just beginning to tap into the opportunities for transforming health care infrastructure to drive innovation and value across the care continuum.”
As Baby Boomers continue to age and live longer, the market for senior services and supplemental care will continue to grow. “I want us to be a champion with respect to Alzheimer’s [disease],” said DeRosa.
