Girl Scout Cookies for a cause
It’s Thin Mint time of year again. Instead of standing outside of grocery stores or car washes, two Girl Scouts are making a very special delivery.
For the past three years, the Hanson sisters have asked residents of Albert Lea, Minn., to buy Girl Scout Cookie for the more than 20 veterans who live at Thorne Crest Retirement Community.
Shelby Hanson says cookies are a way for the community to show veterans their service is appreciated. They handed out more than 400 cookies this year.
“It has done a lot for me and shown me how people can be so thankful,” Hanson says to KIMT. “Just seeing the veterans here, they’re so happy. Some of them aren’t able to do this out in the community.”
The Hanson sisters got the idea after participating in the Girl Scouts’ Cookie Share program, where people buy cookies to send those serving in the armed forces.
