Genesis HealthCare buys Sun Healthcare Group
Genesis HealthCare has announced the purchase of Sun Healthcare Group, Irvine Calif. The $215 million deal will create one of the largest skilled nursing providers in the country, with a combined 422 SNFs in 29 states.
Sun Healthcare Group’s SunBridge Healthcare operated a complete range of long-term care services in 23 states. The acquisition of Sun’s SunDance Rehabilitation will also boost Genesis’ marketshare in rehabilitation therapy to about 1,500 contracts in 46 states.
In a separate deal, Sun’s SolAmor hospice service line was sold to Life Choice Hospice for $85 million. Genesis owns one-third of Life Choice.
Genesis plans to remain headquartered in Kennet Square, Pa., while boosting its employee base to nearly 80,000, the coompany stated in a press release.
