Fla. launches assisted living ranking tool

Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration has introduced an online consumer tool to consolidate information and quality rankings for the state’s assisted living communities.

Similar to the Center for Medicare & Medicaid’s Nursing Home Compare tool, the state’s Assisted Living Comparison Tool hosts aggregated data from state inspections, including citations and penalties. The tool also lists communities’ specialized care services, giving consumers better ways to determine which communities offer the services their loved ones need.

“[The tool] will shine the light on Florida’s good assisted living operators and shamefully expose those who mistreat residents,” said Brian Lee, director of the state’s Families for Better Care, in a press release. “The new website puts nearly real-time assisted living data at the fingertips of residents and families. No longer will families be left in the dark wondering how their loved one’s assisted living [community] is performing when compared to other facilities.”

Florida is known as one of the bellwether states for senior care initiatives; time will tell if other states will follow suit.
