End-of-life care app captures final wishes

An advance care planning app that allows a person to create a voice or video message concerning end-of-life decisions is now available for the iPhone.

The MyDirectives Mobile App creates a legal advance care plan complete with a "handwritten" and video signature that is stored securely in the cloud. And even if the user's iPhone is locked, medical personnel can still access the information 24/7.

"For a patient’s loved ones, there is nothing like hearing their wishes in their own words–which MyDirectives allows via the ability to upload videos–to know that you are making the right decisions at a time of crisis," said Monica Williams-Murphy, MD, a board-certified emergency physician at the University of Alabama Huntsville Hospital and medical director for advance care planning, in a press release.
