Elder abuse focus of October observance
The National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care has proclaimed October as Nursing Home Residents' Rights Month as a way to call attention to elder abuse in all long-term care environments, including sub-acute units, assisted living and retirement communities in addition to nursing homes. "Speak out against elder abuse" is the 2013 theme, and the hope is that residents and others will become educated about the issue.
To learn about events associated with the observance, and for resources to mark the observance in your own facility, see the nonprofit advocacy group's website.
