EHR implementations: Don’t skimp on evaluations, planning, LTC facilities say
LeadingAge’s Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST) today published a portfolio of 13 case studies on electronic health record system implementation in long-term/post-acute care facilities.
The case studies describe the process each facility went through, including the project’s goals, achievements and lessons learned along the way. The vendor relationship is extremely important, but so it the initial planning process, the report states. Finding a project champion among the facility’s staff also can go a long way to assist staff buy-in.
"The process of selecting and implementing an electronic health record is daunting for many," said Majd Alwan, PhD, LeadingAge senior vice president for technology and executive director of CAST. "Our hope is that these case studies will help providers learn from their peers’ experiences.”
The case studies are a followup to last month’s CAST launch of an online tool designed to help LTPAC facilities choose an EHR vendor.
