Dementia training provider adds ADL module
HealthCare Interactive, a provider of dementia care education and training for caregivers, has launched a program to help caregivers learn how those with dementia can react to simple daily tasks, and how to help caregivers interact when helping those with dementia perform activities of daily living.
The CARES Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Online Dementia Care Training Program is the latest offering in the CARES portfolio of dementia care education. Its 10 modules covers techniques on tasks from bathing and mouth care to mobility and pain management, showing ways caregivers can interact more successfully with residents with dementia, reducing stress and the need for antipsychotic medications, the company noted.
"What I like the best about this program is that it actually shows the progression of the disease from the early signs to complete dependence,” said John Hobday, HealthCare Interactive CEO and Founder, in a press release. “It is not common for staff members to understand this progression, and CARES ADL will make a strong contribution to their ability to apply appropriate care strategies based on the resident's current abilities.
The new program, which was announced at this week's American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living Quality Symposium in New Orleans, qualifies for certification under the Alzheimer's Association essentiALZ certification program.
