Coloring for a connection
Maria Shriver is coloring a brighter picture for people with Alzheimer’s disease.
Shriver’s latest project is to connect people with dementia to caregivers, family and friends through art.
“Color Your Mind: A Coloring Book for Those with Alzheimer’s and the People Who Love Them” pairs illustrations from Brita Lynn Thompson alongside information about wellness, brain health, social connection, nutrition and exercise. Shriver worked with neruologists, psychologists, professional caregivers and people with the disease to develop the artwork and suggest activities and conversation starters.
“When my father had Alzheimer’s I struggled to find things that I could do with him,” she said in a press release. “That’s why I created ‘Color Your Mind.’”
The coloring book was printed by Blue Star Press, publisher of the bestselling “Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Patterns” and several other themed adult coloring books.
The book retails for $12.99, and a portion of the book’s proceeds will be donated to The Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement, which Shriver also founded.
