Cleveland Clinic’s Cosgrove on short list to lead VA

Update: Cosgrove has opted to stay with the Clinic.

Delos “Toby” Cosgrove, MD, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic, has been approached by the Obama administration to take over the helm of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which has been challenged by some veterans over the delays in patient care, according to an article in Forbes.

Cosgrove, a highly respected cardiac surgeon and decorated Vietnam veteran, has experience leading a multispecialty, multisite healthcare network since he took the helm at Cleveland Clinic in 2004.

The VA provides veterans with a host of services throughout their lives, including healthcare benefits, long-term care assistance and coverage, and burial assistance and memorials

It is not clear whether the White House has approached other candidates to take the lead in solving the problems at the VA.
