Bill to repeal the ACA may reach House floor this week

The House Rules Committee will meet July 9 to discuss legislation that proposes to repeal the Accountable Care Act (ACA) and parts of 2010’s Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act. The bill, called the Repeal of Obamacare Act, is sponsored by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.).

"The flawed healthcare law represents one of the largest tax increases in American history," said Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, in a June 28 statement following the Supreme Court ruling on the law’s constitutionality. "As our economy continues to struggle, we need to be reducing the tax burden on small businesses and working families, not increasing it. We must redouble our efforts to repeal and replace this law with patient-centered reforms that will reduce costs and help the American people meet their healthcare needs."

The House Ways and Means Committee also is scheduled to discuss the ACA this week, planning a July 10 hearing on the tax ramifications of the Act’s individual mandate rule.

The House is slated to vote July 11 on the bill to repeal the ACA, according to a posting on the House Majority Leader’s website.
