Ark. memory care center opens art gallery dedicated to Glen Campbell

A Little Rock, Ark. dementia care center opening this week includes an art gallery named for Glen Campbell, the country singer who has spent the past four years in a long and public fight with Alzheimer’s disease.  

Memory Care of Little Rock at Good Shepherd will offer a memory-care-only environment for 74-bed community for residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, plans to integrate the Glen Campbell Art Gallery with the care center’s programming, which will includes an art therapy program. Local artists will be encouraged to contribute works to the gallery that will both inspire and help educate visitors on the impact of dementia on families.

The new memory care center will provide cross-team programming to maximize residents’ function and abilities—from activities to nutrition. “We’re anxious to open our doors to help families throughout Arkansas and beyond facing Alzheimer’s and dementia have a fuller, richer quality of life as they age,” said Rosanne Boyd, executive director of Memory Care of Little Rock at Good Shepherd, in an article in About You, a local culture publication based in Little Rock. “We will offer a number of memory care innovations—including special programs and dynamic architectural developments—intended to provide the best in physician-designed, compassionate care for our residents.”

Several members of Campbell’s family are scheduled to attend, including his wife, Kim, who is slated to speak on the role that art has played in her husband’s memory care and experience with the disease. The family has helped to spread awareness of Alzheimer’s disease since the singer decided to go public, resulting in the 2014 documentary film Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me.

Campbell’s family announced in November that his Alzheimer’s has reached the sixth of seven stages.
