The New Wave of Foodservice Technology in Senior Care

App focuses on caring for wounds and ostomy sites

The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) announced this week the launch of a new mobile app that offers recommendations for wound care for those suffering from other disorders.

The Evidence-Based Wound Care Guidelines and Fecal Ostomy Best Practice app provides health care professionals with up-to-date recommendations on care for those whose wounds may have resulted from, or are at risk of developing wounds due to pressure ulcers, fecal ostomies, lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD), lower extremity neuropathic disease (LEND) or lower extremity venous disease (LEVD).

In each case, healthcare providers can view the differential assessment algorithm and an image library to help assess patients. The quick reference guide also allows the healthcare provider to quickly locate an image or information and then view details related to the diagnosis with extended guidelines and tools.

In announcing the launch of this new, comprehensive app, Phyllis Kupsick, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, CWOCN, president of the WOCN Society, said, “It truly represents the WOCN Society’s continuing effort to investigate and develop new ways to assist both members of our organization and the industry in the delivery of expert patient care. The app can be utilized by anyone who purchases it, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physical therapists, and it directly benefits those in need of wound and ostomy care.”

The Evidence-Based Wound Care Guidelines and Fecal Ostomy Best Practice app  is available from the Apple iTunes App Store and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and the iPod touch devices.
