AMDA Foundation names its 2013 Medical Director of the Year

Rocco Vivenzio, MD, CMD, has been named AMDA Foundation’s 2013 Medical Director of the Year. In 1999, Vivienzo created the Strong Health Geriatrics Group at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, New York. As Strong Geriatrics’ medical director, Vivienzo promoted the inclusion of nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) in nursing homes on a regular basis for better resident access.

Today, Vivenzio is a medical director for nine nursing homes. He is also a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and a clinical instructor in geriatric medicine at the Rochester Institute of Technology Physician’s Assistant Program.

In addition, Vivienzo is a clinical instructor at St. Fisher College’s Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program and a clinical instructor in geriatric medicine at Lemoyne Colleges Physician’s Assistant Program.

In a release, Strong Geriatrics’ current medical director, Dallas Nelson, MD, CMD, FACP, said, “[Dr. Vivienzo] taught me about medical direction and how to be an active physician leader. He taught me how to love it.”

AMDA Foundation is an affiliate of AMDA–Dedicated to Long Term Care Medicine. The AMDA Foundation Medical Director of the year award was established in 2007 to recognize medical directors who “set an outstanding example of what the physician leader in long term care can accomplish.”
