The New Wave of Foodservice Technology in Senior Care

All’s “fair” in health and wellness

In Westchester County, New York, a Health and Wellness Fair was held at Willow Towers Assisted Living, part of United Hebrew of New Rochelle. It is the first in the county to be awarded the new assisted living licensure by the New York State Department of Health. The Health and Wellness Fair was presented because seniors are increasingly aware of how watching their health helps to keep them fit and active; they are receptive to any education that helps them maintain or improve their fitness levels.

CVS sponsored the event and were joined by area health experts. With issues ranging from healthy eating to hearing loss, more than 60 residents attended presentations and were then able to talk to healthcare experts at their information tables. Executive Director Jean Dunphy advised that “It is so important for our residents to get vital health information and education.” The belief is that informed residents make better choices.

Among the participants was Dr. Nora O’Brien, the director of rehabilitation at United Hebrew of New Rochelle, part of the Burke Rehabilitation network. Other participants were Emma Alava, a CVS pharmacist; Samantha Joy Mark, a registered dietician from Shoprite Supermarkets; Kelly Montagnino of White Plains Hospital Center; and Dr. Jasen Ruiz, Chief Audiologist from Advanced Audiology.

Willow Towers resident Evelyn Levine commented: “I am so happy that I attended the health fair. Everyone who spoke offered new information that will help me stay fit.”

On another note: The staff of Long-Term Living wishes all the fathers who work in the long-term care field and the very special fathers under their care a very happy Father’s Day.
