Adult portable bed handles recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Bed Handles, Inc., have issued a voluntary recall of about 113,000 adult portable bed rails. If used without the safety retention straps, a gap is created between the rail and the side of the mattress that could cause entrapment, strangulation and/or death.
Three deaths have been reported involving the handles. The recalled models include the Original Bedside Assistant (BA10W); the Travel Handles (BA11W), which is sold as a set of two bed handles; and the gold Adjustable Bedside Assistant (AJ1), with a black foam handle.
The CPSC recommends that use of the recalled handles be stopped immediately. Bed Handles will provide free safety retention straps, new assembly and installation instructions for the three models, including a warning label.
