AANAC buys AALTCN

The American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC) has purchased the assets of the American Association of Long Term Care Nursing (AALTCN) and the Health Education Network (HEN), the publisher of educational materials distributed via AALTCN.

The combined group will be a stronger, more unified force for long-term care nursing, explained Diane Carter, RN, MSN, RAC-CT, C-NE, FAAN, president and CEO of AANAC, in a press statement. “It became clear after the [May 2015] Nurse Leadership Summit that it is imperative for the leaders in our field to speak with one voice in matters of policy and regulation.”

Joining forces will bring more than 20,000 long-term care nursing professionals together under one organization, allowing for better coordination of resources, educational programs and policy advocacy.

“The AALTCN board has decided that it’s in the best interest of the LTC nursing profession to work with AANAC as one organization on one recognized DON [director of nursing] certification and educational program,” said Charlotte Eliopoulos, RN, MPH, ND, PhD, AALTCN's executive director.
