LeadingAge research center adds senior associate
Linda Hermer, PhD, has joined the LeadingAge Center for Applied Research (CFAR) as a senior research associate.
Hermer, whose advanced degree in biological and cognitive psychology is from Cornell University, will collaborate with other staff to design, implement and analyze research on long-term care and supportive services for older adults, with a focus on improving health outcomes and quality of life for those who have low or fixed incomes.
Before joining LeadingAge, Hermer served as a biostatistician at Shaw University’s Institute for Health, Social and Community Research in North Carolina and as an assistant professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of Florida.
“In the past, I have studied fundamental mechanisms by which the brain and mind operate, with applications to understanding conditions that affect older populations, such as Alzheimer’s disease. I have performed further health outcomes research on medical conditions affecting the elderly including prostate cancer, clinical depression and hypertension.” Hermer said in an announcement from LeadingAge. “I look forward to applying my skills and expertise to CFAR’s work as we continue to provide research focused on improving the lives of older adults and persons with disabilities.”
Hermer received her bachelor’s degree in neurobiology and linguistics from Harvard College, and she studied health policy and epidemiology as a Professional Student-Scholar at the George Washington University, where she was also named Chair Scholar in the Department of Health Policy.
CFAR aims to translate research findings into real-world policies and practices that improve the lives of older Americans and their caregivers.
