Remedi SeniorCare, one of the nation's largest providers of pharmacy services to the long-term care (LTC) industry, announced last week that the Ohio Pharmacy Board has granted approval for its Connexit pharmacy interface to be used with electronic health records (EHRs) provided by Optimus EMR, a major EHR vendor for LTC facilities.
According a press release, this approval expands the opportunity for shared Remedi-Optimus serviced facilities nationwide.
The bi-directional interface, which uses secure HL7 messaging protocols, will help to establish a real-time, continuous patient record that ensures that the right medication is delivered to the right resident at the right time.
"Designing a meaningful exchange of clinical information begins with developing robust IT interfaces that support the shared objective of connecting care and building value into an accountable facility-resident relationship," said David Lashar, Remedi’s chief information officer.
Robert Davis, CEO of Optimus EMR, also noted, "Our customers appreciate and benefit from the automation introduced through the pharmacy interface. The medication ordering process is one of the most labor-intensive activities of the nurses in LTPAC [long-term/post-acute care], when done manually and without a real time bi-directional interface."
