Nursing home report card to launch in Kansas

Nursing homes in Kansas will be undergoing additional public scrutiny beginning in April when the Department for Aging and Disability Services in that state unveils a new website rating about 340 facilities.

The Kansas Nursing Home Report Card site, according to the Wichita Eagle, will be similar to the federal Nursing Home Compare site, although ratings will be limited to various categories; no overall ratings will be given.

Ratings will be determined via data from health and safety inspections; staffing level information; quality indicators such as those related to pressure ulcers, weight loss, urinary tract infections and catheter use; and resident interviews conducted by National Research Corp.

The state hopes that the report card will motivate nursing home administrators to correct identified problems, Joe Ewert, commissioner of survey, certification and credentialing for the department, told the media outlet.
