Storms and flooding prompt LTC evacuations in Midwest

This week’s torrential rains wreaked havoc across the midwest, including the evacuation of a Granville, Mich. retirement community because of flood risks.

Brookrest Retirement Community moved 122 residents out of the facility as Buck Creek overflowed its banks, threatening to block roads. The early action paid off, as the nursing home residents were safely relocated before water began to flow into the building, according to an NBC affiliate WoodTV.com.

Thursday’s weather also may have contributed to a roof collapse at Villa Catherine Assisted Living in Carlyle, Ill., one hour east of St. Louis. All residents are safe, although the residents of the second floor had to be moved to another part of the facility, reported Fox affiliate TV2 St. Louis.
