The Village of Ninnescah Harbor Home residence is located in the rural Kansas farm community of Clearwater. The locally owned skilled nursing facility, Ninnescah Manor, recognized the need for a more diverse elderly living environment to serve its regional area. Additional land was purchased one block away from the skilled facility, and a multiphased project including assisted living, special care and independent living began. The “Home Plus” concept of Harbor Home recognizes a Kansas healthcare regulation allowing for the acute care of five or fewer residents. These five individuals share a residential environment with staff and assist with the daily household activities. Residents are encouraged to bring special personal furniture for a comfortable transition. The resident rooms are placed around a centrally located kitchen. The kitchen is open to allow interaction with staff and residents throughout the day. A private courtyard and front porch allow for a variety of settings. Ninnescah believes in the continuum-of-care approach to assisted living service. Harbor Home provides the special attention necessary in a stand-alone residential facility within the overall campus. |
