The long-term care industry is at an exciting crossroads as advancements in technology converge with rapidly evolving healthcare delivery, payment and coordination models.

Leading LTPAC (long-term post-acute care) providers, HIT (health information technology) leaders, policy makers and vendors will convene June 18-19 in Baltimore at the LTPAC Health IT Summit to advance the issues, initiatives and policies facing LTPAC HIT.

Our resident technology blogger, John Derr, one of the founders of the LTPAC HIT Summit, will be a highly visible presence at the conference, as will Long-Term Living’s new associate editor, Pamela Tabar. Pamela brings deep experience in magazine journalism to the Long-Term Living team and a keen interest in technology, having served as news editor for Healthcare Informatics earlier in her career.

Pamela will report on the conference’s extensive program, which will cover 2012-2014 Roadmap for Health IT in LTPAC priorities and recommendations, showcase real world implementation successes, and spotlight certified LTPAC electronic health records. Other program topics include:

  • Accelerating the development of health IT skill sets in the LTPAC workforce
  • Engagement in patient-centric health care to enhance overall quality of care
  • Quality and process improvement
  • Initiatives that improve care coordination and health information exchange
  • New payment models that are incumbent upon health information technology
  • Certified LTPAC electronic health records in skilled nursing facilities and home health
  • Current research, studies, and data on LTPAC HIT use, adoption and care delivery impact
