Nintendo’s Wii system has been around for a while now. It has been embraced by seniors as a way to socialize, exercise—and compete! And compete they did. For the past few years, activity directors have incorporated Wii events into their programming and reconfigured rooms to accommodate these senior bowlers.
In June, I blogged about the national Wii bowling event sponsored by the National Senior League that culminated with an awards presentation at this past October’s LeadingAge Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Thirty-three teams from senior communities across the nation participated in a five-week playoff series.
The final match of the Master Division of the tournament pitted the Vintage Burbank team from Burbank, Calif., against the Wii Keglers from Central Baptist Village in Norridge, Ill., resulting in a win for the Burbank Ball Busters.
Congratulations to all those who participate in Wii events across the country and who like to stay engaged and have fun.
Senior marketing excellence recognized at LeadingAge
In October, RetirementHomes.com presented its MOMBA Awards in an international competition recognizing the best marketing achievements by senior living communities. Nominees in 10 categories were selected based on rankings by visitors to the site. Five judges from the senior living industry chose the winners.
The MOMBA Award (named for the company’s penguin mascot) in the Judge’s Choice category was presented to Copeland Oaks in Sebring, Ohio, at the LeadingAge Annual Meeting. Robert Walker, brand manager for RetirementHomes.com, credits Copeland Oaks on its “brilliant scratch and sniff promotion. It was a unique idea, it catches your attention, and it’s fun for all ages.” To see the winners in all 10 categories, visit https://www.retirementhomes.com/library/contest/.
