Emeritus communities respond to tsunami
Emeritus Senior Living has issued emergency plans for all West Coast communities in response to today’s tsunami, according to its Web site.
“Protocols include emergency response teams, emergency supply kits, special contacts for local emergency and utility services, and alternative housing locations, such as other assisted living communities,” the Web site reads. “We are communicating with state and local authorities for ongoing assessments and updates.”
Damage to U.S. harbors has been minimal in the wake of a tsunami generated by the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that has devastated Japan. The largest tsunami wave having hit American soil at this point seems to be the 8.1-foot one recorded by Crescent City, California.
