Verma confirmed as next CMS Administrator
The Senate has confirmed Seema Verma, MPH, as the next Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Verma, the president and founder of healthcare consulting firm SVC Inc., was granted the expected final Senate approval in a 55-43 vote late today, primarily along party lines.
Verma has spent more than 20 years working in healthcare policy, including directing state Medicaid expansion strategies in Indiana, the home state of Vice President Mike Pence. Through SVC, Verma helped several other states develop their Medicaid expansion programs or implement waiver programs. She is known for challenging the status quo of Medicaid programs and is expected to play a key role in the GOP’s plans to revamp the Affordable Care Act.
