Super-short-term stay model helps with therapy and laundry

Need some short-term help getting back on your feet after surgery but don’t need to be in a formal assisted living or skilled nursing unit? Still need some help even after the hospital or rehab says you’re “ready to go home”?

Sage Senior Living, a three-location provider in Pennsylvania and Maryland, has launched a new service model for short-term recuperative services that don’t require formal registration in a skilled nursing center.

The “restorative health stay” is designed for those who need some very short-term supportive care after a hospital stay or a medical procedure, but don’t need to be in a skilled nursing environment. Participants will have 24-hour access to care staff, medication management assistance and rehabilitation therapies as well as cruise-ship-style amenities within the community, including laundry services, meal preparation, transportation and concierge services.

The program fills a void in the healthcare system for those who want the full service of an established senior living community rather than home care services, and can be a boon for those who live alone or whose families are too far away to assist. The service also serves as a “test drive” of the community, which executives hope will form loyalty bonds for later when full services may justify a move-in.
