New 398-unit continuing care facility planned in S.C.

South Carolina is booming with boomers.

Construction for a new 398-unit continuing care facility, South Bay at Mount Pleasant, will begin in July. South Bay will offer independent living, assisted living and memory care as part of a mixed-use community on 27 acres in Mount Pleasant, S.C. South Bay is one of nearly a dozen new senior-living facilities planned for or under construction in the Charleston area.

“Because of the appeal of Mount Pleasant, and the entire Charleston area, demand for this type of community is high,” says Will Purvis, chief development officer of North Carolina-based Liberty Healthcare Management, to The Post and Courier. “People who already live in the area will not have to relocate to continue living this desirable lifestyle, and those who wish to retire here will find that South Bay meets their expectations for a luxury retirement community.”

The facility will offer upscale residences with a variety of dining, education, cultural and recreation activities as well as concierge services. It will also have an ownership option with independent living garden flats along a six-acre pond.

The first phase of development is expected to cost about $100 million and be finished by spring of 2018.
