The New Wave of Foodservice Technology in Senior Care

Pennsylvania senior care system continues to consolidate

Presbyterian SeniorCare will partner with an area long-term care provider to become the largest provider of senior residential services in Western Pennsylvania.

Presbyterian SeniorCare signed an affiliation agreement with Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare in Lawrence County. Last year, Presbyterian SeniorCare affiliated with Presbyterian Homes in Erie, Pa. Neither deal involved any exchange of money or charitable assets.

“We’re very much likely to see a time of consolidation and mergers here,” Presbyterian Senior Care Senior Vice President Jim Pieffer told Pittsburgh Business Times. “Standalone organizations are realizing that becoming part of accountable care and other organizations means that they’re going to need stronger partnerships.

“We would like to be an attractive partner to both the Highmark and (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) networks and future networks.”

Long-term care providers are seeking more affiliations to improve patient outcomes, the future of Medicare reimbursement.
